The Dark Horse Espresso Bar

The Dark Horse Espresso Bar on Shambles Market is opening a café on 147 Bishopthorpe Road this year after the kitchen showroom Knaresborough kitchens moved out.

The Dark Horse on Shambles market was inspired by the Australian coffee culture and is known for its coffee and treats.

Laura and Mark Edwards set up The Dark Horse Espresso Bar in 2018. They started on a small scale with the dream to open a café. Five years later, they have their own café on Bishopthorpe Road that is set to open in June.
​
Laura started her journey in Australia in 2003 during backpacking, where she met her husband, and fell in love with Australian coffee. They lived together in Australia for 15 years before moving back to the UK, along with their two sons.

Together they felt like they rebuilt everything from the ground up once they returned to the UK.
​
Laura and Mark used to pass the shop on the way to work and saw it was up for lease. They noticed how it always caught the sun, and the free space allowed them to make moves on renovation to bring the space to The Dark Horse Standard.
​
The café plans to be open 7.30 am – 6 pm everyday, apart from Fridays and Saturdays where it will be open until 10 pm, and 9 pm on Sundays.
