Vitoria Restaurant
Wednesday 19th April 2023
Vitoria, an Italian and tapas restaurant on Coppergate in York, was forced to temporarily close in the week of the 15th of April due to an issue with the gas supply.

Vitoria opened in 2021 to occupy the space previously housing Russell's Carvery restaurant which closed in 2019 after being a popular destination for 32 years.

It was previously awarded a two-star food hygiene rating after a City of York Council inspection, resulting in much-needed improvements. The rating was received by the staff as a targeted attempt to make them pay for revisits.
The acting public protection manager Anthony Dean said the lack in standards was possibly due to Brexit impacting a lack of, “suitably trained chefs and staff, due to financial difficulties."

The reinspection saw the Vitoria make the biggest improvement meaning satisfactory standards were met. After the improvements were made in multiple categories the Vitoria café had a smooth few months, until they suffered a gas supply issue in April causing the doors to temporarily close until the technical issues are solved.

They put a sign in the window to notify customers which read, “closed due to a fault with our gas.” It has now reopened and continued serving customers.
