Wagamama's & F&B

Thursday 4th May 2023

The restaurant chains Wagamama, Frankie & Benny’s and Chiquito closed over 20 locations across the UK at the end of May after negotiating exit contracts to shut the doors. The news was given by The Restaurant Group (TRG) on Tuesday, May 2 as there were several loss-making sites.

The Group made, “good progress,” on its cost-cutting efforts.  The Restaurant Group runs 410 venues including the brands Frankie and Benny's, Chiquito, and Wagamama’s.

They reviewed some of their estates in March and came to the harsh conclusion that some of their Frankie and Benny’s and Chiquito sites needed to be closed.

Last weekend, 12 Frankie and Benny sites closed, four Chiquito sites, and Firejacks closed, taking the total number to 23 closures across the multiple chains.

They did not forget about their hard-working staff who they tried to, “redeploy to neighbouring sites,”

if they could do so.

These closures included sites in Blackpool, Chesterfield, Tamworth, and Tunbridge Wells saving around £5 million by closing the loss-making restaurants.

Despite the losses, the TRG announced that it would increase the speed of their plans to grow the chain with up to eight sites set to open next year.
